  • The Motor Ombudsman’s annual Star Awards contest allows customers to recognise accredited businesses and individual team members across the country who have gone the extra mile when assisting them

W Livingstone Ltd, a family-run SEAT and CUPRA dealership and service centre in Uddingston, Glasgow, has scooped the Regional Star Award for Scotland in The Motor Ombudsman’s 2025 Star Awards. This is the second time that the family-run business has claimed the title, having previously lifted the trophy in the same category in 2022.

Now in their sixth year, The Motor Ombudsman’s Star Awards celebrate accredited businesses and individual team members across the UK, that are signed up to the body’s respected Motor Industry Codes of Practice, who go above and beyond to deliver an exceptional level of service when it mattered most.

W Livingstone Ltd’s success began earlier this year with The Motor Ombudsman inviting consumers to share their ‘good news stories’ – short explanations detailing how a business or an individual staff member went the extra mile in their ‘time of need’. At the culmination of the nomination period, these gestures of altruism, kindness and generosity, shown within the heart-warming accounts received by The Motor Ombudsman, were then whittled down to form a shortlist of three finalists across eight regions, spanning Cornwall in the south to Scotland in the north.

This year’s nomination for W Livingstone Ltd came from a loyal customer who praised the dealership’s support and desire to help when they were unable to drive for an extended period due to recovering from surgery. It was at this point that that the service department of the long-established dealership stepped in, unprompted, to arrange for the owner’s car to be collected from their home for its service and MOT, and to be returned once the work had been carried out, avoiding inconvenience to the consumer, and allowing these two important milestones for a vehicle to be met on time.

From the shortlist of the three submissions in each of the regions in the competition, it was up to the judges appointed for this year’s contest – motor industry and consumer experts, to come to a joint consensus as to the names to be etched on to this year’s trophies, as well as the two runners-up for each category. For the Regional Star Award for Scotland, and up against stiff competition from another car dealership and an independent garage, it was the nomination for W Livingstone Ltd which was deemed this year’s worthy winner of the sought-after trophy.

On being named the winner of the Scottish regional trophy for the second time, Robin Livingstone, Managing Director at W Livingstone Ltd, said: “We are absolutely delighted to receive this award again this year and so proud of our considerate staff who ‘went the extra mile’ for one of our customers. It is just the sort of thing that our staff do without really thinking about it – it has always been our ethos to help if we can. We are vey lucky to have so many fantastic and generous customers and it has been our privilege to look after their motoring needs for nearly 65 years”

Bill Fennell, Chief Ombudsman and Managing Director of The Motor Ombudsman, explained: “We are delighted to recognise W Livingstone Ltd with the Regional Star Award for Scotland. It’s actions that sometimes speak louder than words, and in this case, the dealership once again went the extra mile quite literally to help a consumer who was not up to the task of bringing in their vehicle for vital routine maintenance and safety checks.”

Bill added: “It is these acts of generosity and out-of-the-box thinking that makes winners like W Livingstone Ltd stand head and shoulders above the rest and be deserving of having their name etched on to one of this year’s trophies. Congratulations!”
